The Rotary Club of Abbotsford-Matsqui has created the Abbotsford Environmental Leadership Awards as a Community Service to recognize environmentally conscious business leaders in Abbotsford community who are making efforts to reduce their business’s carbon footprint.  The first Annual Environmental Leadership Awards Banquet recognizing all nominees and winners will be held February 9, 2012.

The earth is under siege from a number of environmental challenges, and each of us as individuals and in our businesses is responsible for doing our part to preserve, and if necessary, restore the environment.  As Abbotsford is the “City in the Country” and enjoys an urban progressiveness while preserving an appreciation for its agricultural heritage, it is an ideal location to begin to recognize those who are making an effort to preserve the environment.  Through honouring these businesses, it is hoped that other businesses will learn and follow.  It is time for us all to work together to make a difference.

These annual awards will publicly acknowledge the initiative, dedication, and hard work that businesses, individuals and/or groups have put into caring for our environment and protecting our natural heritage.
